The Philips 42PFL7432D is a 42" flat panel HDTV that features Philips' unique Ambilight technology. The set is a FullHD 1080p resolution LCD (liquid crystal display). Ambilight works by emitting soft colored lighting that matches what is displayed on the screen to ease the strain on your eyes.

On this particular set, a 2-channel Ambilight system is used, which produces light on the left and right sides of the television.
Other notable features of the 42PFL7432D is the incorporation of Philips Perfect Pixel HD technology. Philps claims their PPHD system enhances the overall picture of the display by analyzing each pixel and matching it with the surrounding pixels to reduce noise and produce a more vibrant color and image.
A USB connection is also included that lets you display pictures stored on a USB mass storage device or digital camera.

#philips_ambilight_42pfl7432d I recommend checking out the 2008 models, notably the
Philips 7400 series. It's unfortunate that Philips cancelled the ambilight system for 2008, so if you're sold on the whole surround light stuff, which quite a few people are, then this is the model to go with.
