Samsung 7 Series (2009)

Released April, 2009

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Attractive bezel and stand. 1080p, 240Hz. Expanded digital media format support and Internet features.

The Cons:Not LED backlit. Not much difference from the 650 Series - 120Hz to 240Hz isn't a big deal. Sound quality isn't the best.

Also known as the 750 Series, the 7 Series line of televisions represents Samsung's highest end LCD HDTVs that use regular CCFL backlighting solution as opposed to the newer LED backlights. This 2009 line continues the 7 Series brand introduced in 2008, and upgrades the sets to contain the top of the line features of 2009 which includes a 1080p native resolution, 240Hz motion compensation technology, deep Internet connectivity and expanded digital media format support.

Product Shot 2 These features make the line comparable to Samsung's flagship Luxia 8000 Series, with the only difference found with the different backlight technologies, which results in a different picture quality. The 750 Series is the step up to the 2009 650 Series with the only difference between the two being 120Hz vs 240Hz motion compensation tech.

750 Series features

Auto Motion Plus 240Hz - Auto Motion Plus refers to Samsung's motion compensation technology that uses the faster 240Hz refresh rate to insert 3 artificial frames between the standard frames of the source video. Samsung claims this technology is well suited for fast moving video such as sports and action movies to reduce motion blur, and also helps with movies by reducing an effect called "judder". However, many people don't like this technology because it can make the video have what is called the "Soap Opera Effect". The difference between 120Hz and 240Hz technology is that the 240Hz tech inserts 3 frames instead of 1.

650 and 750 Series Features

Internet@TV - expanding upon the 2008 InfoLink service Samsung's Internet@TV offers full Internet connectivity with richer Yahoo Internet widgets for sports, news and weather information, alongside Internet video streaming. The list of video streaming partners includes Amazon and YouTube and is expected to change/expand over time.

Digital Media Support - these TVs can stream digital media from the network, or from a USB device attached directly to the set. For 2008 all the TVs can handle audio, video and photos while last year video support was limited to only the flagship lines. Furthermore, the video format support is increased in 2009 to add popular formats such as MKV, and WMV9. This means that most video found on the Internet will work.

Models

The naming convention for the 2009 Samsung 7 Series: Samsung LNxxB750 where the "xx" is replaced by the television's size. The 2009 models can be distinguished from their 2008 counterparts by the letter that appears before the "750". 2008 is "A", while 2009 is "B".

Dognip: #samsung_7_series_2009 Before saying that: "120Hz to 240Hz isn't a big deal", it would help to know you actually compared the new 7 with a 7 series with 120Hz in dept.

Samsung's 240 Hz technology is different than the one Sony uses and has NOT been reviewed as of yet so how do people know how it performs?

Sony's 240Hz LCDs have been reviewed and seem so so but it doesn't mean Sammy's sets are equal... Mar 30, 09
