The Aquos D44U series is Sharp's entry level line of high definition LCD televisions introduced in 2008. Being the entry level these sets contain a native-resolution of 720p and lack most of the features found in higher-end televisions such as a 120Hz mode and motion interpolation.

The line above the D44Us is the D64U series which offers a 1080p native resolution. One of the features of the D44U series that distinguishes itself from entry-level offerings by other manufacturers is the addition of an ambient light sensor that automatically adjusts the brightness of the image depending on how much light is in the room.

Sharp, along with Samsung are one of the only manufacturers to make their own panels. Sharp's panels are known for producing duller colors than the Samsung, but offer better viewing angles with little discoloration.

The naming convention of the AQUOS D44U series is: Sharp AQUOS LC-xxD44U where xx refers to the size of the model.
