The SE94U (SE stands for Special Edition) series is the flagship line of LCD televisions introduced in 2008 by Sharp. These sets match the standard for high-end HDTVs with a 1080p native resolution and a 120Hz display mode.

The SE94s use a five-wavelength backlight which Sharp claims makes for more accurate color reproduction. Below the 94Us is the D74 series which removes the 120Hz mode, and uses a four-wavelength backlighting system.

5-Wavelength backlight - the backlighting system uses separate colored lights for an "improved color range". The difference from 4-wavelength to 5 is the addition of a backlight dedicated to "deep reds" that in Sharp's words, makes reds viewable that were "previously impossible".
AQUOS Net - through the included ethernet port these sets can be connected directly to the Internet which adds two main features. The first is the ability to view content from the Internet, such as videos, and widgets providing weather and news information. Connecting to the Net gives access to the AQUOS Support Net which lets you Sharp offer customer support such as diagnosing problems and calibrating your television.
Panels - Sharp, along with Samsung are one of the only manufacturers to make their own panels. Sharp's panels are known for producing duller colors than the Samsung, but offer better viewing angles with little discoloration.

#sharp_aquos_special_edition_se94u_series An LCD TV must first provide the best picture possible at all resolutions before even considering convenience features. That said, Sharp has sustained a reputation for decoding all video formats well, from 480i NTSC analog TV through to 1080p. It does not have the best remote ergonomics or built-in sound system. It has suffered a reputation with a supposed LCD 'banding' issue in prior models and this can be held against Sharp. My 46SE94U series has minimal banding: its invisible except in one part of a video test suite, and was not easy to see. While I love this TV, I would be hard pressed to recommend without a warning given the chance a buyer may get one with peculiar banding; the bands are, in some unlucky buyers, intolerable.
